Tornado washing machines repair
Book a technicianTornado washers on the market include Egyptian-made top-loaders such as the 10 kg TWT-TLN10LWT and the 9 kg TWE-TLN09RDS, front-loaders such as the 7 kg TWV-FN710BKOA, and twin-tubs. If the washer has stopped with water inside, the cause is usually a kinked or raised drain hose or a blocked pump filter, not the board.
Before you book a technician for a Tornado washer
Front-loaders show a code such as Er 03 when they detect a fault, and top-loaders beep and show a code such as E1 or E5. Photograph the code before switching off, note the stage where the washer stopped, and photograph the model label.
On front-loaders the pump filter is behind a small cover at the bottom right. Put a container underneath before opening it, because the water in the machine drains through it and you may need to empty the container several times. On top-loaders, filling, draining and balance codes clear once the cause is fixed: open and close the lid, then press start.
The water in the pump may be hot after a hot programme, so unplug the washer and wait for it to cool before opening the filter. If the washer trips the breaker or gives off a burning smell, leave it unplugged until a technician has checked it.

Faults seen on Tornado washers6
The washer stopped with water inside (Er 03 or E1)
EasyThe programme stops before the spin, with water left in the drum.
Possible causes
- A pump filter blocked by lint, coins or buttons
- A kinked or blocked drain hose
- The hose end set too high or sitting in water
- The drain pump or its connection
Solution: On a front-loader, clean the pump filter once the water has cooled. On a top-loader, straighten the hose and lift its end out of any water, then open and close the lid and press start. If the filter and hose are fine and the code returns, the pump needs checking.
Water not coming in (Er 02 or E5)
EasyThe washer starts with no sound of water, or water trickles in and the washer stops after a while.
Possible causes
- A closed tap or a water cut
- Low water pressure
- A kinked inlet hose, or a blocked mesh at the valve
- The water inlet valve
Solution: Open the tap fully and check that water reaches your other taps. Close the tap, undo the inlet hose and clean the mesh. If pressure is good and water still does not come in, the valve needs checking.
Door or lid problem (Er 01 or E2)
ModerateThe washer will not start, or stops and beeps as if the door were open.
Possible causes
- The door not closed until it clicks
- Clothes caught at the door seal
- The lid opened during a cycle on a top-loader
- The door lock or lid sensor
Solution: Close the door until you hear a click. On a top-loader, close the lid and the washer resumes by itself. If the code stays with the door properly shut, unplug the washer; the lock needs checking.
Shaking or beeping on spin (E2-2)
ModerateA front-loader jumps and moves, and a top-loader stops the spin and beeps after trying to rebalance the load.
Possible causes
- Laundry bunched to one side
- Unlevelled feet or an uneven floor
- Transit bolts still fitted on a new front-loader
- A small load or a single heavy item
- Shock absorbers or bearings
Solution: Spread the laundry and level the feet. On a new washer, make sure the transit bolts have been removed. If it still shakes with an even load, the shock absorbers or bearings need a technician.
Too much water in the washer (Er 04 or E6-1)
Needs a technicianThe washer drains by itself and stops, or the water rises above its normal level.
Possible causes
- An inlet valve that does not close
- The water level sensor
- A pump that cannot keep up
Solution: Turn off the tap and unplug the washer. A front-loader drains the water by itself first; on a top-loader the manual says to drain it manually. This is an internal fault that needs a technician.
The motor will not turn or will not stop (E7-1 to E7-4 or Eb-1)
Needs a technicianThe top-loader shows a code, and the pulsator or drum will not turn in wash or spin, or keeps turning after the washer starts.
Possible causes
- The washer's board
- The motor or its wiring
Solution: Switch the washer off and unplug it. The manual says these codes mean a fault in the board or the motor, and that repair is a technician's job.
Tornado washing machine error codes14
These meanings come from the brand's published user manuals: Er 01 to Er 04 from the TWV-FN710 and TWV-FN1012 front-loader manuals, and the rest from the TWT-TLN08LDS top-loader manual. Other models or older generations may show different codes, so compare the code with your model's manual, and if it is not there, photograph it and send it.
| Code | Meaning | Cause | Severity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Er 01 | Front-loader: door not shut properly | Shut the door until it clicks; if the code stays, unplug the washer and have the lock checked. | Low |
| Er 02 | Front-loader: water pressure or the water level inside is too low | A closed tap or a water cut. If it continues, the washer stops by itself after a while. | Low |
| Er 03 | Front-loader: the pump is not draining | A clogged pump filter, or the pump itself or its wiring. Start by cleaning the filter. | Medium |
| Er 04 | Front-loader: too much water inside | The washer drains it by itself; then close the tap and unplug it, and it needs a technician. | Critical |
| E1 | Top-loader: draining not finished 15 minutes after it began | A blocked, kinked or raised drain hose, or its end sitting in water. | Medium |
| E2 | Top-loader: lid opened during wash, rinse or spin | Close the lid and the washer carries on by itself. | Low |
| E2-2 | Top-loader: unbalanced spin that the washer could not correct | Spread the laundry around the tub and make sure the washer stands level on an even floor. | Low |
| E3 | Top-loader: MEMS (vibration and balance) sensor failure | The sensor is faulty or wrongly fitted; it needs a technician. | Medium |
| E5 | Top-loader: filling not finished in 20 minutes | The tap, the hose connection, a blocked valve mesh, or low water pressure. | Low |
| E6-1 | Top-loader: water reached the overflow level | Switch off, close the tap and drain the water manually, then call a technician. | Critical |
| E7-1 / E7-2 / E7-3 / E7-4 | Top-loader: the motor fails to turn in one direction during wash or spin | A short or open circuit, with the fault in the board or the motor. | Critical |
| E9 | Top-loader: no water in the tub during the wash | The manual says to check the tub for cracks, or the fault is in the board. | Critical |
| Eb-1 | Top-loader: at start-up the motor kept turning and did not stop after a minute | The board or the motor; it needs a technician. | Critical |
| HE | Top-loader: wrong water connection at the cold inlet | Put each hose back on its correct inlet as shown in the manual. | Low |

Habits that reduce washer faults3
The front-loader's pump filter
MonthlyCheck it every month and clean it at least every two months as the manual suggests, and check pockets before washing so coins and buttons do not reach the pump.
Tub cleaning on top-loaders
MonthlyOn models with a Tub Clean programme, such as the TWT-TLN10LWT, run it with an empty tub to clear detergent residue.
The right detergent in the right amount
WeeklyCheck the detergent drawer every week: if there is a lot of foam or residue, use less or switch to an automatic-washer detergent, since the front-loader manual puts excess foam down to too much detergent or the wrong type.
Questions about Tornado washers3
My top-loader beeps and shows E1. What should I do?
E1 means draining did not finish in the allowed time. Straighten the drain hose and make sure its end is neither too high nor sitting in water, then open and close the lid and start again. If the code returns with a sound hose, the pump needs checking.
My new front-loader jumps around on spin. Why?
First make sure the transit bolts at the back have been removed, since the manual starts installation with them. Then level the feet, and avoid very small loads or a single heavy item.
HE appeared after moving the washer. What does it mean?
In the top-loader manual, HE means the water is wrongly connected at the cold inlet. Close the taps, fit each hose to its own inlet, then restart.
