Vented dryers are the cheapest and most common type in Egypt. They run on an electric heating element, a motor that turns the drum, a fan that moves the air, thermostats that control the temperature and a lint filter that keeps lint out of the system. The warm, moist air leaves the home through the vent hose, so the hose should be short, free of kinks and clean — a blocked hose slows drying, blows the thermal fuse and raises the fire risk. - Clean the lint filter after every drying cycle — the single most important step to prevent fire
- Spin the clothes well in the washer before drying
- Clean the vent hose and its outside opening every 6 months
- Don't leave the dryer running while you're out of the house
- Spread the load evenly and don't overfill the drum

Clothes come out damp — what's the cause?
Usually a clogged lint filter or vent hose, or a burnt heating element or thermal fuse. Unplug the dryer, clean the filter and check the hose first; if the problem stays, the technician tests the heater, the fuse and the thermostats.
There's smoke from the dryer — is it dangerous?
Yes — unplug it at once and don't run it again. Smoke usually comes from lint catching fire inside; if there is a fire, don't open the door and call the fire brigade on 180. A technician then needs to clean the air path and hose and check the heater before it runs again.
Drying takes too long — what's the cause?
1) A clogged lint filter, 2) a blocked or kinked vent hose outside, 3) a weak heating element or a faulty thermostat. Diagnosis pinpoints it.
Does the hose have to go outside?
Yes — a vented dryer must blow the moist air outdoors (through a window or a wall opening), otherwise moisture and lint build up in the room. Keep the hose short and free of kinks; the technician checks and cleans it during the visit.
The drum turns but with no heat — what's the cause?
Usually one of three parts: the heating element, the thermal fuse or a thermostat — and the fuse often blows because the vent is blocked, so the technician tests all three and clears the vent too.
What is the expected lifespan?
About 10–15 years if you clean the filter and the vent hose regularly.
