Indesit is an Italian brand that appeared in Turin in 1953 and became part of Whirlpool in 2014. In April 2024 Whirlpool's Middle East and North Africa business, including the Indesit brand, passed to Turkey's Arçelik, the owner of Beko. In Egypt you see Indesit in dishwashers, No Frost fridges, upright freezers and front-loading washers, and some Indesit cookers are labelled made in Egypt.

Indesit model names are long letter-and-number codes such as DFE 1B19 S or TAAN 6 FNF, and the first letters indicate the appliance type and line. The full model is printed on a label inside the washer door, on the dishwasher door edge or inside the fridge. Photograph all of it, because two models one letter apart can take different parts.

Indesit washers in Egypt are front-loaders such as the XWE 81283X, 8 kg with Push & Wash, plus washer-dryers such as the XWDE961480XSEX. The most common code is F05, meaning water is not draining, usually because of the pump filter or the hose.

Before you book a technician for the washer

If the lights flash and the washer has stopped, the user manual says: switch off, unplug for a minute, then switch on again. If the code returns, photograph it and note the stage where the washer stopped.

The drain hose must sit 65 to 100 cm above the floor. If it is lower, the washer may fill and drain continuously. The pump filter is at the bottom front; before opening it, unplug the washer, let the water cool if it was a hot programme, and place a container and a towel.

Water does not drain (F05)

Easy

The washer stops with water in the drum, and the door will not open.

Possible causes

  • A pump filter blocked by coins or hair clips
  • A kinked drain hose
  • The drain pump

Solution: Unplug the washer and turn off the tap, and if it stopped on a hot wash, let the water cool first. Drain the water, clean the filter and straighten the hose. If the code returns with a clean filter, the pump needs checking.

Water not coming in (H2O)

Easy

The display shows H2O and the programme will not start.

Possible causes

  • A closed tap or low pressure
  • A kinked inlet hose
  • A blocked mesh at the connection
  • The inlet valve

Solution: Open the tap, straighten the hose and clean the mesh. If water still does not enter, the valve needs checking.

Door not locking or not opening (F06)

Moderate

The programme will not start because the door is not locked, or it has ended and the door stays shut.

Possible causes

  • Water still in the drum
  • Clothes caught in the seal
  • The electric door lock

Solution: If there is water, the door will not open until it drains. Do not force the door. If the code persists with an empty drum, the door lock needs checking.

Heavy shaking or moving on spin

Easy

The washer moves across the floor or knocks against what is beside it.

Possible causes

  • Transit bolts still in a new washer
  • Unlevelled feet
  • An uneven load
  • The shock absorbers

Solution: Remove any transit bolts and level the feet. If shaking continues with a normal load, the shock absorbers need checking.

Water does not heat (F08)

Moderate

Hot programmes leave the laundry cold, or the washer stops with F08.

Possible causes

  • The heater or scale on it
  • The temperature sensor
  • The board

Solution: This needs the heater and sensor measured and is not a DIY job.

Too much foam

Easy

Foam coming out of the detergent drawer or visible at the door.

Possible causes

  • Too much detergent, or detergent not meant for front-loaders

Solution: Use front-loader detergent in the amount on the pack.

Indesit's user manuals do not include a code table, so these meanings come from Indesit's UK service site. The meanings of F06, F07 and F08 differ between references and generations, so do not rely on them alone, and photograph the code with the model.

My Indesit washer shows F05. What should I do?

Unplug it and turn off the tap, and if it was on a hot wash, let the water cool. Drain the water from the filter opening into a shallow container, clean the filter and straighten the hose. If the code returns, the pump needs checking.

The door stays locked after the programme

Usually there is still water in the drum, which leads back to a drain problem. Drain the water first; do not force the door, as the lock will break.

Book a technician

Indesit dishwashers in Egypt are 60 cm freestanding models such as the 14-place DFE 1B19 S and the 13-place DFC2B+16ACX. Most of their faults start at the filter in the base or the drain hose, and cleaning those solves many of them.

Start with the base filter

Remove the lower basket, twist the cylindrical filter out of the base and rinse it under running water. Food scraps, bones and broken glass in the filter are the usual cause of water left in the base and dishes coming out dirty.

Then spin the spray arms by hand to check they do not hit any dish, and check the drain hose at the back is not kinked. If there is a code or flashing lights, photograph it with the model label on the door edge.

Water left in the base (F03)

Easy

The programme ends with water standing under the filter.

Possible causes

  • A blocked filter
  • A kinked drain hose or blocked sink connection
  • The drain pump

Solution: Clean the filter and check the hose and sink connection. If water still does not drain, the pump needs checking.

Not filling (F06)

Easy

The machine starts with no sound of water entering, and stops after a while.

Possible causes

  • A closed tap or low pressure
  • A kinked inlet hose
  • The inlet valve

Solution: Open the tap and straighten the hose. If it still does not fill, the inlet valve is measured.

Dishes come out dirty or with white marks

Easy

Food left on plates, or a white film on glasses.

Possible causes

  • A blocked filter or spray-arm holes
  • Salt or rinse aid run out
  • Loading that blocks a spray arm

Solution: Clean the filter and the spray-arm holes with a toothpick, and refill salt and rinse aid. If the water does not heat, the heater needs checking.

Water in the base or under the machine (F01)

Moderate

The machine stops and runs the drain pump, or there is water on the floor.

Possible causes

  • Foam from hand soap used by mistake
  • A leak from a hose or the door seal
  • A leak inside the machine

Solution: Turn off the tap and unplug the machine. If foam was the cause, let it dry for a day. Otherwise the leak needs a technician to locate it.

Can I use ordinary washing-up liquid?

No. Ordinary liquid makes a lot of foam that reaches the base and triggers the anti-flood protection. Use dishwasher tablets or powder only.

Indesit refrigerators repair

Book a technician

Indesit fridges in Egypt are mostly top-freezer No Frost models such as the 415-litre TAAN 6 FNF and the 420-litre TINF70420SEG, plus bottom-freezer defrost models such as the LI80 FF1 K. These fridges do not show numeric codes, so diagnosis starts from the symptoms.

Before you book a technician for the fridge

Look at the back wall inside the freezer on No Frost models: if there is ice on it, the defrost cycle has stopped. Listen for the fan when you open the freezer and press the door switch. On models with a display, the freezer indicator warns of an unusual temperature rise.

If the whole fridge is dead and the light is off, check the plug and power first. After any move, let it stand for four hours before switching on.

Moderate

On No Frost models: food in the freezer is frozen but vegetables below are not cold.

Possible causes

  • Ice blocking the air duct from a defrost fault
  • The defrost heater or its sensor
  • The freezer fan

Solution: Empty the fridge and keep the food somewhere cold, put towels and a tray underneath, then switch it off for a full day with the doors open. If it works and the problem returns after a few days, the defrost circuit needs checking.

Water at the bottom of the fridge

Easy

A puddle under the crisper drawer.

Possible causes

  • A blocked defrost drain hole

Solution: Clear the hole in the back wall with warm water.

No cooling at all, light working

Moderate

No compressor sound, or a click every so often from the back.

Possible causes

  • Low voltage
  • The compressor relay
  • The compressor or board

Solution: Try another socket away from heavy appliances. The technician measures voltage and the relay before judging the compressor.

Thick ice in a defrost freezer

Easy

On models such as the LI80 FF1 K: ice builds up and the drawers jam.

Possible causes

  • Manual defrosting overdue
  • A door seal not closing

Solution: Switch off and let the ice melt on its own, without sharp tools or any flame. If it returns quickly, the seal needs checking.

Does an Indesit fridge show a code?

The models common in Egypt do not show numeric codes. What appears is an indicator warning of a freezer temperature rise, so diagnosis relies on symptoms and measurement.

Indesit washer-dryers repair

Book a technician

In Egypt, Indesit's drying option is a combined washer-dryer, such as the XWDE961480XSEX, which washes 9 kg and dries 6. The first thing to check when laundry comes out damp is that the drying load does not exceed 6 kg.

Drying has its own circuit

Washing in this machine works like any front-loader, while drying relies on a heater, a fan and a temperature sensor. If washing is fine and only drying fails, the fault is in that circuit.

Take some of a full wash load out before drying, and run a high spin first. Let the machine finish its cool-down at the end before opening it.

Washes but does not dry

Moderate

The drying programme ends with wet laundry.

Possible causes

  • The drying heater
  • The thermal fuse or thermostat
  • The drying fan

Solution: The heater, fuse and fan need measuring.

Laundry damp or drying takes too long

Easy

Drying happens but is incomplete.

Possible causes

  • A load bigger than the drying capacity
  • A weak spin before drying
  • Lint in the air duct

Solution: Reduce the load to 6 kg or less and run a high spin. If it persists, the air duct needs internal cleaning.

The machine stops during drying (F13)

Moderate

The code appears only during the drying stage.

Possible causes

  • The drying temperature sensor
  • The sensor wiring

Solution: Unplug for a minute and restart. If it returns, the sensor needs checking, and you can use it as a washer only until then.

Indesit freezers repair

Book a technician

Indesit freezers in Egypt are upright No Frost drawer models such as the six-drawer UI6 F1T S and the 286-litre INU6012CEG with an inverter motor. Because they are No Frost, any ice build-up inside signals a defrost or door fault, not something normal.

Before you book a technician for the freezer

Make sure the door shuts properly and no drawer sticks out. Look at the wall behind the drawers: ice there means defrost has stopped. And recall whether a large amount of food was loaded at once.

On inverter models, if the power went off and on and the freezer did not restart, unplug it for 10 minutes and switch it on. If it stays off, the board needs checking.

Food is soft or ice cream melts.

Possible causes

  • Ice on the evaporator from a defrost fault
  • The freezer fan
  • The door seal
  • The compressor or board

Solution: Test the seal with a sheet of paper and check for ice behind the drawers. If there is ice, empty the freezer and keep the food somewhere cold, put towels and a tray underneath, and switch it off for a day with the door open: if it freezes well again afterwards, that confirms a defrost fault.

Possible causes

  • The door left ajar
  • A seal not closing
  • The defrost cycle

Solution: Clean the seal with warm water and check the freezer is level so the door closes on its own.

Loud fan or knocking

A rubbing sound from behind the drawers.

  • The fan blade hitting ice
  • The fan motor

Solution: If the noise comes with ice, the problem is defrost. The fan motor is replaced if it hums.

Indesit microwaves are not currently sold by the large retailers in Egypt, so those in homes were bought earlier or abroad. Photograph the label on the back, because parts such as the magnetron and door switches are matched by model.

The inside of a microwave is not a DIY job

The capacitor inside keeps a high-voltage charge after unplugging. Do not remove the case, and do not run the oven empty or with a door that does not close properly.

Run a cup of water for a minute at full power: if the water stays cold while the light and plate work, the fault is in the high-voltage circuit.

Needs a technician

The timer finishes and the food is cold.

Possible causes

  • The magnetron
  • The diode or capacitor

Solution: Needs a technician to discharge the capacitor and measure.

Completely dead

Needs a technician

No display and no light.

  • The fuse
  • The door switches

Solution: Try another socket. The fuse and door switches are inside the casing and are checked together, which is a technician's job after discharging the capacitor.

Sparks inside

Moderate

Flashes and popping while it runs.

  • Metal inside
  • Burnt grease on the waveguide cover

Solution: Stop it and remove the metal. A burnt cover is replaced before it damages the magnetron.

These water heaters are not currently sold by retailers in Egypt. If you have one, photograph the label on its side; its faults are those of any electric water heater: the thermostat, the element, scale and the safety valve.

Safety first

Switch off the breaker before touching the heater, and never run it empty. If the heater trips the breaker, leave it off until it is inspected.

Lukewarm or cold water

Moderate

The heater is on but the water does not get hot enough.

Possible causes

  • The thermostat
  • The element
  • Scale on the element

Solution: Check the thermostat setting. If there is no heat at all, the element and thermostat are measured.

The breaker trips

Needs a technician

The power cuts as soon as you switch the heater on.

Possible causes

  • A shorted element
  • Water reaching the connections

Solution: Do not switch it on again. This is an electrical fault near water and needs a technician.

A constant leak

Moderate

A few drops from the safety valve while heating are normal; the problem is water dripping all the time or showing under the heater.

  • A worn safety valve
  • A loose fitting
  • The tank itself

Solution: The valve and fittings can be replaced; never block the valve outlet. If the tank itself leaks, repair is usually not worthwhile.

The Indesit cooker common in Egypt is a 90 cm, 5-burner model such as the INR9 GGF 21115 XNA, labelled made in Egypt, with Sabaf burners, safety on every burner, automatic ignition and an oven fan. There are also built-in hobs such as the IN9522IX.

If you smell gas

Close the gas valve or cylinder, open the windows, and do not switch any electrical switch on or off or use a lighter. Leave the room and call the gas emergency line 129. Do not use the cooker again before a technician checks the connections.

Ignition, the fan and the oven light need power. If they all stop at once, the plug or cable is the first check. On a built-in hob, do not remove it from the worktop yourself.

Common cooker faults4

The flame dies when you release the knob

Moderate

It lights while you press and goes out when you let go.

Possible causes

  • Not holding long enough after lighting
  • A dirty thermocouple tip or one out of the flame
  • The thermocouple or safety valve

Solution: Hold for 10 seconds after lighting. Clean the copper tip and seat the cap properly. If that fails, the thermocouple is replaced.

Ignition not working

Easy

No spark, or continuous clicking even with the knob off.

Possible causes

  • The cooker is not plugged in
  • Water in the ignition switch under the knob after cleaning
  • The ignition electrode or ignition unit

Solution: If clicking continues after cleaning, unplug and let the cooker dry for a day. If there is no spark at all, the ignition unit needs checking.

Yellow or weak flame

Moderate

A yellow flame that blackens pans.

Possible causes

  • Blocked burner holes
  • Jets not matched to the gas type

Solution: Clean the holes with a dry brush. Changing jets between cylinder and mains gas is a technician's job.

The oven does not heat or the fan has stopped

Moderate

The oven burner goes out after a few minutes, or food cooks on one side.

  • The oven thermocouple
  • The oven thermostat
  • The oven fan motor

Solution: Check the door closes properly. The other parts need a technician.

Wipe without soaking the knobs

Weekly

Water running under the knobs causes continuous ignition clicking.

Check the gas hose

Yearly

If it is dry or cracked, close the valve and replace it straight away with a matching gas hose, and leak-test the joint with soapy water, never a flame. On mains gas, have a technician or the gas company do it.

    A fan spreads the cold air and a heater melts ice off the evaporator from time to time, so no ice forms on the walls.

    Common faults

    A defrost fault shows as ice on the back wall; the fridge and freezer sections below cover it. Never chip that ice with anything sharp or bring a flame near it; these appliances usually use a flammable refrigerant.

  • Push & Wash

    Washers such as XWE 81283X

    A single button starts a ready programme without choosing temperature or spin.

    Common faults

    The button does not change how the washer works. Its faults are those of any front-loader: draining, the door and the heater.

  • Inverter motor

    INU6012CEG freezer

    The compressor varies its speed with the load instead of cycling on and off, controlled by a board.

    Common faults

    The board is more sensitive to voltage swings than the compressor itself, so if your power often cuts in and out, a suitable voltage protector or stabiliser helps protect it.

  • Flame safety and automatic ignition

    Cookers such as INR9 GGF 21115 XNA

    Each burner has a thermocouple that shuts the gas if the flame goes out, and ignition is electric from the knob.

    Common faults

    If a flame will not stay lit, the fix is to clean or replace the thermocouple, never to bypass the safety or wedge the knob down.
