A grill microwave has all the parts of a standard microwave plus a grill element in the cavity roof that browns the food, a relay or switch that powers it, and a metal grill rack. The element runs on its own (grill only) or together with the microwave (combi). Its most common faults: a burnt-out or weakened element, a faulty relay or switch, a control board that will not switch on grill or combi mode, and grease building up around the element and smoking. Because grilling heats the whole unit more, the cooling fan matters a great deal. The most common brands: Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic and Fresh.

Tips to keep your Grill Microwave running
- Wipe grease from around the element after grilling, once the unit has cooled and is unplugged — no harsh cleaners or sharp tools
- Use a tray or dish under the rack to catch the grease
- Keep to the maximum grilling time in your model's manual
- After grilling, let the cooling fan run until it stops on its own and leave the door ajar — do not unplug the microwave while it is hot
- Use the grill rack supplied with the microwave (or a suitable one for your model) in grill or combi mode as the manual allows — never in microwave-only mode, where it sparks
- Never open the microwave casing — the high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge even after unplugging

Grill Microwave — frequently asked questions
The grill does not heat — what is the cause?
Usually a burnt-out grill element, or the grill relay or switch, or the control board. The technician tests the element with a multimeter after unplugging the microwave and discharging the capacitor — never open the microwave casing yourself.
The microwave works but the grill does not — what should I do?
Make sure you have selected grill-only mode rather than combi, and run it for a minute: if the element does not glow and there is no heat from the top, the fault is in the element, the relay or the control board, and a diagnosis will pinpoint which.
Grease built up on the grill is smoking — what is the fix?
Unplug the microwave and let it cool, then wipe the grease from around the element and the cavity roof with a cloth, water and a little soap. Built-up grease can catch fire, so if it still smokes after cleaning or sparks at the element ends, call a technician.
The grill has become slow — is that normal?
No — if grilling has become much slower than before, or only part of the food browns, the element has probably weakened or has a loose connection. A technician can test it.
Do you repair Samsung and LG grill microwaves?
Yes — every model, including combi mode (microwave and grill together).
How can I make the grill last longer?
Clean off grease regularly, keep to the grilling times in the manual, and let the cooling fan finish after grilling. The actual lifespan depends on the brand and how it is used.
