In an OLED TV every pixel produces its own light, so there is no backlight and no LCD layer — which is why black really looks black. Its parts: the OLED panel, the T-Con board, the main board and the power board. The most common faults are burn-in (a static image retained on screen) and a horizontal line caused by the T-Con or the panel itself. Spare parts are expensive and can take time to arrive, so we give you the cost before any work. The most common brands: LG (the most popular), Sony, Philips and Samsung.

Tips to keep your OLED TV running
- Let the TV run its pixel refresher by itself: switch it off with the remote and don't cut the power straight away
- Don't leave a static image on screen for more than two hours
- Turn on the screen saver in the settings
- Use a suitable voltage stabiliser
- Clean an OLED screen only with a dry microfibre cloth
- Keep it away from heat and high humidity
- Never press on the screen — it is very fragile

There's a ghost of a static image on my OLED — can it be fixed?
The TV runs a pixel refresher by itself after you switch it off. If the ghost is still there, run it manually once from the settings; if it stays, it is likely permanent burn-in — and permanent burn-in on an OLED can only be fixed by replacing the panel. Prevention matters most: don't leave a fixed channel logo on screen for hours.
A horizontal line appeared across the middle of the screen — why?
Usually the T-Con board or a loose ribbon cable, sometimes the panel itself. It can be repaired, but spare parts are expensive and can take time to arrive.
My TV takes a while to turn on — is that normal?
The first start after the power has been cut takes longer because the system boots from scratch — that is normal. If it has become much slower than before, or restarts by itself, it needs checking — usually the software or the main board.
OLED costs much more than LED — is it worth it?
OLED gives a better picture (true black, richer colours and wide viewing angles). If you watch a lot of films or have a home cinema, it is worth it. For everyday viewing, LED is very good.
