Drum Vacuum Cleaner Repair

Canister (drum) vacuum repair: weak suction, a motor that overheats or smells burnt, a cord that won't rewind. Clear price first, 6-month written warranty.

A domestic drum vacuum cleaner with stainless steel cylindrical barrel, navy plastic motor lid and base, four small caster wheels, a single flexible suction hose attached to the side and metal wand with floor nozzle resting neatly beside it

A canister (drum) vacuum uses a strong motor to create suction: dust travels through the hose into the bag or bin, the air then passes the motor-protection filter, goes through the motor and leaves through the exhaust filter (often the HEPA filter). Its parts: the motor and suction fan, the bag or cyclone bin (on bagless models), the motor-protection filter, the HEPA exhaust filter, the hose and wand, the floor brush, and the automatic cord rewind. Common faults: a weak motor or worn carbon brushes, a clogged filter, a holed hose, or a broken cord rewind.

Tips to keep your Drum Vacuum Cleaner running

  • Replace the bag when the full indicator shows, and empty the bin after each use
  • Wash a washable HEPA filter monthly and let it dry completely before refitting it
  • Replace a non-washable HEPA filter as your model's manual recommends
  • Don't vacuum up water or wet food (a regular vacuum isn't made for liquids)
  • Don't vacuum up large hard objects (nails, coins)
  • Check the hose for cracks now and then
  • Let the vacuum cool down after any long session
  • Don't yank the cord out of the wall socket

Drum Vacuum Cleaner — frequently asked questions

The suction suddenly got weak — what is the most common cause?

Usually a clogged HEPA filter or a full dust bag — cleaning the filter or changing the bag fixes it. If not, the hose may be holed or the motor weak.

The motor is loud — is it dangerous?

If the noise comes with a burning smell, the carbon brushes are probably worn out or the motor is close to burning out. Unplug the vacuum immediately and call a technician.

The cord won't rewind — what should I do?

The rewind reel has usually failed. Don't force the cord — the repair is a technician's job: replacing the reel, the spring or the lock.

Do you work on Bosch and Philips vacuums?

Yes — we repair Bosch and Philips vacuums and the other popular canister brands.

My HEPA filter is worn — should I replace it?

Yes — a worn filter lets dust reach the motor and damage it, and a new filter costs far less than a motor repair.

How long does a vacuum cleaner last?

It depends on the model, how much it is used and how well the filters are looked after. Cleaning the filters and changing the bag on time helps the motor last longer.

Do you fit HEPA filters for allergies?

Yes — we fit a HEPA filter that suits your model and traps most fine dust and allergens.

The hose has a hole — is repairing it worth it?

A small hole can be repaired with heat-shrink tubing. If the hole is large or there are several, replacing the hose is cheaper.
