Whirlpool Repair

Whirlpool washer stopped with water inside and F05 on the display? Dishwasher showing F06 and not filling? Most Whirlpool appliances in Egypt come from the European range and show codes made of F and two digits, and many of them come down to a filter, a hose or a tap. Here is what the sourced codes mean, and when a fault needs a technician.

Whirlpool in Egypt: who makes it and who sells it

front-loading washing machine — illustrative photo

Whirlpool is an American brand; the parent, Whirlpool Corporation, was founded in 1911 in Michigan and bought Italy's Indesit in 2014. In April 2024 Turkey's Arçelik, the owner of Beko, took over the management of Whirlpool's home appliance business in the Middle East and North Africa. According to retailers' pages, the units we see here are made in Europe and Turkey: washers from Slovakia and Italy, fridges and upright freezers from Turkey, chest freezers from Italy, and dishwashers from Poland. In 2019 the Egyptian company MTI was assembling washers for the brand locally, and retailers list the WTLA top-loaders as made in Egypt.

The rating label shows three things: the model name such as FWG 71252 SB, the serial number S/N, and a long industrial code called the 12NC, which on many models starts with 85. That industrial code identifies the right part, because the same model name can be built in more than one version. On a washer the label is around the door opening, on a dishwasher on the door edge or beside the tub, and in a fridge low on the inner side wall. Photograph all of it before you call.

Whirlpool appliances — faults, error codes and repair

For each appliance: common faults and their causes, error codes where published, what you can safely try, and when you need a technician.

Whirlpool washing machines repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool front-loaders in Egypt include the 7 kg FWG 71252 SB and the 9 kg FSCR 90420, and there are top-loaders too such as the 10 kg WTLA1000SL. The most common stop is a washer that finishes washing and halts with water inside, and the usual cause is the pump filter.

Before you book a technician for a Whirlpool washer

Models with a display show the code as F and two digits, such as F05. Models without one show the same fault with lights flashing in a set order, so film them while they flash. Also photograph the label around the door opening, which carries the model and the industrial code.

The pump filter is behind a small flap at the bottom front. Before opening it, unplug the washer, let the water cool if the programme was hot, and lay down a towel and a shallow tray. Turn it slowly until the water stops, then take it out and clear lint and coins.

A washer combines water and electricity. Do not open any cover except the filter flap, do not run it if water is leaking from underneath or there is a burning smell, and turn off the tap and unplug it first.

Common Whirlpool washer faults5

Water left in the drum (F05)

Easy

The programme stops before spinning, and the door will not open because there is water inside.

Possible causes

  • The pump filter blocked by lint, a coin or a hairgrip
  • The drain hose kinked or pushed too far into the pipe
  • A blocked sink or wall drain
  • The drain pump or its wiring (F11)

Solution: Unplug the washer and let the water cool if the programme was hot, then drain the water through the filter opening, clean the filter and check the pump impeller behind it turns. Straighten the drain hose. If the code returns with a clean filter, or F11 appears, the pump needs testing.

The door will not lock or will not open (F06)

Moderate

You close the door and the programme does not start, or it ends and the door stays locked.

Possible causes

  • Clothes or the seal caught at the door catch
  • The electric door lock
  • FreshCare+ still running after the programme

Solution: Make sure nothing is in the catch's way and close the door gently until it clicks. If FreshCare+ is running, stop it first and try the door a little later. If F06 stays, the lock needs checking.

Water not heating or the programme pausing midway (F08 / F03)

Moderate

Clothes come out poorly washed on hot programmes, or the washer pauses during the wash.

Possible causes

  • A burnt-out or scaled heater
  • The temperature sensor
  • The heating circuit on the board (F07)

Solution: The only safe step here is a single restart. If the code returns, the technician measures the heater and sensor with a meter, and both can be replaced without taking the drum apart.

The washer will not start, or the drum will not turn (F01 / F02 / F09 / F12)

Needs a technician

The buttons do not respond or functions cannot be selected, all the lights flash, or the drum turns intermittently or not at all.

Possible causes

  • The electronic board (F01)
  • The motor circuit (F02)
  • A software fault (F09)
  • The electronic control or display (F12)
  • Voltage swings or low supply

Solution: Unplug for at least two minutes, plug back in and wait half a minute before choosing a programme. If the code returns, the board or motor circuit needs checking, and the technician will also measure the socket voltage.

Shaking or banging on spin

Moderate

The washer walks across the floor, or roars loudly even with a light load.

Possible causes

  • The load bunched on one side
  • Unlevelled feet
  • Transit bolts still in a new washer
  • Shock absorbers or bearings

Solution: Spread the clothes and level the feet with a spirit level. A constant roar points to the bearings, and changing them means dismantling the drum.

Habits that cut washer stoppages3

Clean the pump filter every month or two

Monthly

Before opening it, unplug the washer and let the water cool if the programme was hot. Check pockets before washing too; hairgrips and coins are what usually trigger F05.

Dose automatic detergent as the pack says

Too much makes foam that slows draining and spinning and leaves a smell in the seal.

Leave the door ajar after the last wash

Daily

Wipe inside the seal with a dry cloth, so mould does not form and harden the rubber.

Questions about Whirlpool washers2

My Whirlpool washer shows F05. What should I do?

The washer cannot drain. Unplug it, let the water cool if the programme was hot, empty the water through the filter opening at the bottom, clean the filter and straighten the drain hose. If the code comes back after that, the pump needs testing.

The programme ended and the door is still locked. Is the washer broken?

On models with FreshCare+, the drum keeps turning at intervals for up to 6 hours after the programme, and the maker says to stop it when you are ready to unload. Stop it and wait two minutes. If there is no FreshCare+, the door stays locked and there is no water inside, the lock needs checking.

Whirlpool dryers repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool drying in Egypt comes in two forms: washer-dryers such as the WWDC 9614 (9 kg wash, 6 kg dry) and a separate heat pump dryer such as the 9 kg FFT M22 9X2X GCC. When clothes come out damp, start with the lint filter on a heat pump dryer and with the load size on a washer-dryer, before suspecting any part.

Before you book a technician for the dryer

A heat pump dryer does not vent air outside; it condenses the moisture into water in a tank. Most dryers of this type have a lint filter at the door and a second filter in front of the heat exchanger at the bottom, shown in your model's manual, and both must be clean for air to pass. If the tank fills, the programme stops.

A washer-dryer has no tank; the water leaves through the drain, and drying relies on an internal heater and fan. The drying load is smaller than the wash load, so if you dry 9 kg at once in a WWDC 9614, it will come out damp. The label is around the door opening in both cases.

Common Whirlpool dryer faults4

Clothes come out wet or damp

Easy

The programme ends with clothes still damp, especially heavy items.

Possible causes

  • A blocked lint filter at the door
  • The heat exchanger filter at the bottom full of lint
  • A load larger than the drying capacity
  • The moisture sensor coated with softener residue

Solution: Clean the door filter after every cycle and the exchanger filter every few cycles. Wipe the two metal strips inside the drum with a cloth dampened with vinegar. If all that is clean and the problem continues, the fan or the heat pump compressor needs a technician.

The tank light comes on and the programme stops

Easy

The dryer stops midway even when the tank is not very full.

Possible causes

  • The tank really full or not seated properly
  • The small pump that lifts water to the tank
  • A stuck tank float

Solution: Empty the tank and push it back until it locks. If the light comes on with an empty tank, the pump or the float needs checking.

The washer-dryer washes but does not dry (F13 / F19)

Needs a technician

Washing is normal, but the drying stage stops or clothes come out cold and wet.

Possible causes

  • The drying temperature sensor (F13)
  • The drying fan or its heater (F19)
  • The heater control (F15)

Solution: Try a drying-only programme with a small load. If the code shows again, these are internal parts and the repair is for a technician.

Programmes take much longer than before

Easy

The same load used to finish in two hours and now takes longer.

Possible causes

  • The filters
  • The dryer in a closed, hot room
  • Clothes coming out of the washer poorly spun

Solution: Clean both filters, keep the room door open while running, and spin clothes at high speed before drying.

Drying codes on Whirlpool washer-dryers3

These codes come from Whirlpool's UK service site and apply to washer-dryers, not to separate tumble dryers. If a heat pump dryer shows a code, photograph it and send it with the model number.

Habits that keep drying quick2

Clean the door filter after every cycle

Daily

Built-up lint blocks the airflow and lengthens the programme.

Rinse the heat exchanger filter

Monthly

On a heat pump dryer, rinse it with water and let it dry before refitting.

Questions about Whirlpool dryers1

Why does my Whirlpool washer-dryer only dry half a load?

Because the drying capacity is smaller than the washing one: the WWDC 9614 washes 9 kg and dries 6. Split the load in two and clothes will dry faster and better.

Whirlpool refrigerators repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool fridges on the Egyptian market are No Frost and made in Turkey, such as the 438-litre TTNF8111HOX and the 504-litre TTNF9322OX. The most common complaint is a freezer that freezes well with warm shelves below, and that is usually ice blocking the air duct, not the compressor.

Before you book a technician for the fridge

Make sure there is space behind and beside the fridge so heat can escape, and that the door seal grips a sheet of paper closed in it. Do not put hot food in, and do not block the vents the cold air comes from inside.

The label is inside on the side wall low down, near the crisper drawer, and shows the model, the serial number and the industrial code. Models with D in the name such as SW8 AM2 D XR have a display, while those with C such as SW8 AM2 C XR have none, according to retailers' pages.

Refrigerant and compressor work is for a technician only. Never chip ice with a knife or screwdriver because the refrigerant pipe can sit right behind the surface, and if the plug is hot or there is a burning smell, unplug the fridge immediately.

household refrigerator — illustrative photo
Common Whirlpool fridge faults4

Freezer cold but the fridge not cooling

Moderate

Ice cream is frozen solid, but the vegetables and drinks below are warm.

Possible causes

  • Ice blocking the air duct after a defrost fault
  • The defrost heater, its sensor or the timer
  • The freezer fan
  • The door left open or a seal not closing

Solution: Listen for the fan inside the freezer when you open the door and press the door switch. If ice shows on the back wall, empty the fridge and leave it unplugged with the doors open for a full day; if it cools again and the fault returns days later, the defrost cycle needs a technician.

Water under the drawers or on the floor

Easy

Water collects under the crisper drawer, or there is a puddle in front of the fridge.

Possible causes

  • A blocked defrost drain hole
  • The fridge tilted forward
  • The evaporation tray at the back cracked or out of place

Solution: Clear the drain hole on the inner back wall with warm water and a syringe, and set the feet so the fridge leans slightly back. If the water comes from the freezer itself, it needs an inspection.

Ice forming in a No Frost fridge

Moderate

A layer of ice on the freezer wall or around the drawers, when this type of fridge should not build ice.

Possible causes

  • The door not closing well or opened often
  • A dried-out or torn door seal
  • A defrost heater fault

Solution: Wipe the seal with soapy water and do the paper test at several points. If the seal is sound and ice keeps returning, the defrost heater or its sensor needs measuring.

A loud noise or clicking

Moderate

A constant hum, repeated clicking, or a scraping sound inside the freezer.

Possible causes

  • The fridge not level or touching the wall
  • The freezer fan hitting ice
  • The compressor relay or overload

Solution: Level the fridge and move it away from the wall. Light ticking while cooling is normal. Clicking every few minutes with the compressor not starting points to the relay, which is a technician's job.

Habits that ease the compressor2

Clean the condenser and the back

Yearly

Dust on the back or underneath makes the compressor run longer and hotter.

Use a voltage stabiliser if power cuts are common

Power returning suddenly after a cut stresses the compressor and the board.

Questions about Whirlpool fridges1

My Whirlpool No Frost fridge section is not cooling. Is the gas out?

Usually not. If the freezer is freezing, the refrigerant is there and the compressor is running; the problem is that cold air is not reaching the lower section. That is a defrost or fan fault, and the refrigerant is checked only if both sections are barely cold.

Whirlpool freezers repair

Book a technician

Egyptian retailers list two types: Italian-made defrost chest freezers such as the 245-litre CF27T and the 400-litre CF420T, and a 7-drawer No Frost upright such as the 291-litre UW8 F2C XBI N. On chest models, weak freezing mostly comes from built-up ice or a lid that does not seal.

Before you book a technician for the freezer

A defrost chest freezer needs manual defrosting once the ice is about half a centimetre thick: unplug it, empty it, leave the lid open and lay towels and a tray. If your model has a drain outlet at the bottom, open it and put a container in front.

Retailers' pages say these chest freezers are built for a tropical climate class, and during a power cut you should keep the lid shut as much as possible (details in the questions below). Look for the rating label on the outside or back of the cabinet, and photograph it before you call.

Do not break the ice with a knife or sharp tool; in a chest freezer the cooling pipes run inside the wall itself, and any hole means a refrigerant leak and a major repair. Let it melt on its own or with a bowl of hot water inside and the lid open.

upright freezer — illustrative photo
Common Whirlpool freezer faults4

The freezer is not freezing properly

Moderate

Food stays soft inside, or the temperature does not drop as it used to.

Possible causes

  • Thick ice on the walls insulating the cold
  • The lid or door not sealing
  • The freezer next to a heat source or against the wall
  • Low refrigerant or a compressor fault

Solution: Defrost if the ice has thickened, move the freezer away from the wall and sunlight, and check the seal closes. If it is still warm and the walls are not cold, call a technician.

Ice building up quickly

Easy

Ice returns days after defrosting, or gathers at the lid edge.

Possible causes

  • A dry or split lid seal
  • The lid opened often or left ajar
  • Loose lid hinges

Solution: Close the lid on a sheet of paper; if it pulls out easily, the seal is not closing. Clean it with warm water, and if it is split it needs replacing.

The compressor keeps switching on and off

Needs a technician

You hear a click and a start, then it stops after seconds, over and over.

Possible causes

  • Low mains voltage
  • The compressor start relay or overload protector
  • A dusty condenser or no ventilation around it

Solution: Run it on its own socket without an extension, and leave space around it. If the clicking continues, unplug it so the compressor does not overheat and book an inspection.

On the No Frost upright, the lower drawers are not frozen

Moderate

Upper drawers are frozen and lower ones less so, or the fan cannot be heard.

Possible causes

  • Overfilled drawers blocking the air vents
  • The evaporator fan
  • Defrost stopped and ice blocked the duct

Solution: Lighten the load and leave space in front of the vents. If the fan is silent or there is ice on the inner back wall, the defrost system or fan needs a technician.

Habits that look after the freezer2

Defrost before the ice gets thick

Monthly

On defrost chest models, as soon as the ice reaches about half a centimetre.

Leave space around the freezer

So heat from the walls and condenser can escape, especially in summer and in closed kitchens.

Questions about Whirlpool freezers1

The power was out for hours. Has the food in my Whirlpool freezer spoiled?

Retailers state the chest models hold the cold for up to 45 hours if the lid stays shut, and that drops if the freezer is not full or is opened. Check the food itself: if it still has ice crystals inside, it is usually fine.

Whirlpool cookers and gas hobs repair

Book a technician

Most Whirlpool cooking appliances sold in Egypt are built-in gas hobs, such as the 90 cm GMA 9522 IXL and the 73 cm AKR 358 IX, all with 5 burners and full flame safety. There is also a 60 cm freestanding cooker, the WS67G1KMX/MEA. The most common complaint: a burner lights and goes out as soon as you let go of the knob, and the usual cause is the thermocouple.

Safety first: gas

If you smell gas: close the main gas valve, open the windows, do not switch any electrical switch on or off or use a lighter, then leave and call the gas emergency line 129 from outside. Never look for the leak with a lighter or match.

Full safety means every burner has a thermocouple that shuts off the gas if the flame goes out. That is why you press the knob and wait a few seconds after the burner lights before releasing it. On built-in hobs the model label is usually on the underside, visible from inside the cabinet; also look for a copy in the warranty booklet.

Do not adjust the gas regulator or swap the injectors between natural gas and bottled gas yourself. That is a technician's job and must be done correctly, because the wrong injector gives an oversized flame or unburnt gas.

gas cooker with oven — illustrative photo
Common Whirlpool cooker and hob faults4

The burner goes out when you release the knob

Moderate

It lights normally, but the flame disappears as soon as you lift your hand.

Possible causes

  • Not holding the knob down long enough
  • The thermocouple out of the flame or dirty
  • A weak thermocouple

Solution: Press and wait 5 to 10 seconds after it lights. Make sure the burner cap sits properly, and wipe the thin probe beside it. If it still goes out, the thermocouple needs replacing.

The igniter clicks but does not light

Easy

You hear the spark but the gas does not catch, or the spark is weak.

Possible causes

  • The burner cap displaced or its holes blocked
  • The ignition electrode wet or greasy
  • The gas valve or cylinder

Solution: Let the burner dry if it was washed, clean the holes with a dry brush, and seat the cap correctly. If clicking continues with the knob off, that is a switch fault for a technician.

A yellow or sooty flame

Moderate

The flame is tall and yellow, and pans turn black underneath.

Possible causes

  • Blocked burner holes
  • An injector not suited to the gas type
  • High gas pressure

Solution: Clean the burner and cap. If the flame stays yellow, the injector or pressure needs a technician, because incomplete combustion releases toxic gas into the kitchen.

The freestanding cooker's oven will not light

Moderate

The hob works but the oven does not, or it lights and goes out.

Possible causes

  • Not holding the oven knob long enough
  • The oven thermocouple
  • The thermostat

Solution: Open the oven door while lighting and hold the knob longer. If gas does not arrive or it goes out, stop, and do not keep retrying so gas does not build up inside.

Habits that look after the burners2

Clean the burners and caps

Weekly

Let them dry completely before refitting, so ignition catches first time.

Inspect the gas hose

Yearly

If it is cracked, hardened or old, close the valve and have a technician or the gas company replace it with a hose that meets the standard; never test for leaks with a flame.

Questions about Whirlpool cookers1

My Whirlpool hob burner goes out after I release the knob. What should I do?

That is the safety system closing the gas because the thermocouple has not heated up yet. Hold the knob for 5 to 10 seconds. If one burner still goes out, its thermocouple needs replacing.

Whirlpool ovens repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool ovens in Egypt are 60 cm built-in models such as the 73-litre AKZ9 6230 IX and the 75-litre W7 OM4 4BS1H, both electric, plus a 90 cm gas oven, the WGM A4F1 IX. On electric ones, an oven that now heats weakly usually has one of its elements burnt out, not the board.

Before you book a technician for the oven

A built-in electric oven draws a high current, so it must be on its own breaker and circuit. If the clock or display is lit but the oven does not heat, check you are not in timer or child-lock mode, and that the function you picked includes heating, not just the light.

The rating label appears when you open the door, on the lower or side edge of the oven frame, and shows the model and industrial code. Models with 6th Sense such as the W7 OM4 4BS1H control the temperature with a sensor, so if food now cooks more slowly than before, the sensor is among the first things measured.

Switch off the oven's breaker before changing a bulb or removing any part. On a gas oven: if the flame does not catch within seconds, turn the knob off, open the door and wait a minute before trying again.

built-in oven — illustrative photo
Common Whirlpool oven faults4

The electric oven does not heat or heats weakly

Moderate

The display works, but the oven takes ages to reach temperature or never does.

Possible causes

  • The top grill, the ring element behind the fan, or the bottom element
  • The temperature sensor
  • A relay on the board

Solution: Try each function on its own: grill, fan oven, and top-and-bottom heat. The function that does not heat points to the element. Measuring and replacing it with the power off is a technician's job.

The fan does not turn or is noisy

Moderate

Food cooks on one side only, or there is a scraping sound on fan mode.

Possible causes

  • The fan motor
  • A loose fan blade or one rubbing on the cover

Solution: Run fan mode, open the door for a few seconds and look at the fan. If it does not turn or squeaks, the motor needs checking.

The oven trips the breaker

Needs a technician

As soon as it starts heating, or after a few minutes, the power trips.

Possible causes

  • An element shorting to the casing
  • Water or steam reaching the connections
  • A breaker too small for the oven's load

Solution: Leave the breaker off and do not reset it again. This is an electrical fault that needs a technician to test each element separately.

The gas oven lights and goes out

Moderate

The flame appears while you press, then vanishes once you release the knob.

Possible causes

  • Pressing the knob too briefly
  • The oven thermocouple
  • Low gas pressure

Solution: Hold the knob longer after it lights. If that does not help, the thermocouple needs replacing; do not keep retrying back to back.

Habits that extend an oven's life2

Wipe grease while it is still warm

Weekly

Burnt-on grease on the elements and fan shortens their life and causes smoke.

Check the door seal

Yearly

A loose seal lets heat out, so the oven works harder and the cabinet around it heats up.

Questions about Whirlpool ovens1

My Whirlpool oven grill works but fan mode does not. Why?

Each function uses a different element. Fan mode relies on the ring element behind the fan and the fan itself, so one of those is usually the fault while the rest are fine.

Whirlpool cooker hoods repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool hoods sold in Egypt include the wall-mounted 60 cm AKR 697 IX and 90 cm AKR 703 IX, and the 60 cm telescopic AKR 749/1 IX, all with 3 speeds. A hood that has lost suction usually has a grease-clogged filter or a long, bend-filled duct, before you think about the motor.

Before you book a technician for the hood

The aluminium filters unclip from underneath with a small catch, and retailers' pages say they are dishwasher-safe. Without a dishwasher, soak them in hot water with baking soda and let them dry before refitting. The model label usually shows once the filter is out.

A wall-mounted hood pushes air outside through a duct, and every extra bend or a duct narrower than the hood outlet cuts suction and raises the noise. The maximum extraction rate of the AKR 697 IX is 390 m³/h according to the retailer, and that drops a lot if the ducting is poor.

Unplug the hood or switch off its breaker before removing filters or changing a bulb. Do not leave grease-laden filters above the hob; built-up grease can catch fire.

wall-mounted kitchen extractor — illustrative photo
Common Whirlpool hood faults4

Weak suction and smells linger in the kitchen

Easy

The motor runs and sounds normal, but the steam is not drawn up.

Possible causes

  • Grease-filled filters
  • A long, bent or blocked exhaust duct
  • A stuck non-return flap in the outlet

Solution: Wash the filters and test again. If it is still weak, check the duct and whether the flap opens. If the ducting is fine and suction is weak, the fan or motor needs checking.

A loud noise or vibration

Moderate

A hum or rattle that grows at high speed.

Possible causes

  • The hood not firmly fixed to the wall
  • Fan blades with heavy grease or a broken blade
  • The motor bearings

Solution: Tighten the mounting screws. If the noise comes from inside the motor, cleaning or replacing it is a technician's job.

The motor does not run at all

Moderate

The light comes on but the fan will not turn at any speed.

Possible causes

  • The speed switch
  • The motor run capacitor
  • The motor itself

Solution: If you hear a hum without rotation, switch off at once so the motor does not burn out. That is usually the capacitor, an easy change for a technician.

The lights do not work

Easy

The fan works but the lights are off.

Possible causes

  • A burnt-out halogen bulb
  • The light switch or wiring

Solution: Cut the power, let the bulb cool, and replace it with one of the same wattage and base. If both stay off after replacing, the switch needs checking.

Habits that keep the hood pulling2

Wash the aluminium filters

Monthly

Roughly monthly, more often if you fry a lot.

Leave it running after cooking

Daily

A few minutes on low so the remaining steam clears and does not condense inside.

Questions about Whirlpool hoods1

Are the aluminium filters on a Whirlpool hood washed or replaced?

They are washed and refitted, and only need replacing if they get bent or torn. What usually needs replacing is the carbon filter, on hoods that run without an exhaust duct and return the air to the kitchen.

Whirlpool microwaves repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool microwaves listed by Egyptian retailers are 60 cm built-in models such as the 22-litre AMW 439 IX and the 40-litre AMW 834 IXL, both with a grill. The most common fault is that it turns with the light on while food stays cold, which is a high-voltage circuit fault and needs a technician.

Microwave safety

Inside a microwave is a high-voltage capacitor that holds a dangerous charge for some time even after unplugging. So never remove the outer casing, and never run it with a broken door or loose hinges. This in particular is not a home repair.

What you can do safely: heat a cup of water for a minute on full power to see whether it warms, clean the ring under the plate, and check the door closes properly. On built-in models the model label shows when you open the door, on the frame or inside the door edge.

If you see sparks or smoke, stop the microwave and switch off the breaker, and do not open the door if there is fire inside until it goes out. Never run it empty.

Common Whirlpool microwave faults4

It turns with the light on but food does not heat

Needs a technician

The plate turns and the timer counts normally, but a cup of water comes out cold.

Possible causes

  • The magnetron
  • The high-voltage capacitor or diode
  • The high-voltage transformer
  • An internal fuse

Solution: Make sure you are not on grill-only mode or a low power level. If it is on full power with no heating, the check is inside a high-voltage circuit and needs a technician.

Sparks or crackling inside

Moderate

Blue flashes or a crackling sound while running.

Possible causes

  • Metal or a plate with a gold rim
  • Burnt food residue on the walls
  • A burnt waveguide cover (the mica sheet)

Solution: Remove any metal and clean inside. If the small panel on the side wall shows a black burn, replace it before using again.

The turntable does not turn

Easy

The microwave heats, but food warms on one side only.

Possible causes

  • The roller ring out of place
  • The plate not seated on the coupler
  • The turntable motor

Solution: Clean and refit the ring, and seat the plate on the coupler. If it still does not turn, the turntable motor needs replacing.

It will not start with the door closed

Moderate

The display works, but pressing start does nothing, or it stops when you touch the door.

Possible causes

  • Child lock on
  • The door switches
  • A broken door latch

Solution: Check your model's manual for cancelling the child lock. If that is not it, the door switches are part of the safety system and must be replaced correctly by a technician.

Habits that protect the microwave2

Wipe splashes straight away

Weekly

Residue that burns onto the walls and the side panel is what causes sparks.

Use a microwave-safe cover

Daily

It cuts splashes onto the walls and the side panel.

Questions about Whirlpool microwaves1

My Whirlpool microwave turns but does not heat. Can I fix it myself?

No. This fault is in the high-voltage circuit, and the capacitor there stays charged after unplugging. Leave it to a technician with the tools to discharge the capacitor and test the magnetron.

Whirlpool dishwashers repair

Book a technician

Whirlpool dishwashers sold in Egypt are 60 cm freestanding models made in Poland, such as the 13-place WFE 2B19 X and the 14-place WFO 3T123 PF X. The code seen most is F03, and water left in the base usually comes from the filter or the drain hose.

Before you book a technician for the dishwasher

Take out the lower basket, turn the filter in the base anticlockwise and lift it out, and rinse it under the tap with a soft brush. Food scraps, bones and glass in the filter are a leading cause of slow draining and residue on dishes.

The code appears on the display on models with a countdown, and on others as lights flashing together. The model label is in one of three places: the side edge of the door, the top of the tub, or the other side of the tub. Photograph it together with the code.

Common Whirlpool dishwasher faults5

Water standing in the base after the programme (F03)

Easy

The machine stops or finishes with water still under the filter.

Possible causes

  • A blocked filter
  • The drain hose kinked behind the machine
  • A blocked drain connection under the sink
  • The drain pump

Solution: Clean the filter, scoop out the water with a cup and towel, and make sure the hose and sink connection are clear. If water still does not drain, the pump needs checking.

Not filling with water (F06 or F02)

Easy

The programme starts with no sound of water coming in, and the code appears after a while.

Possible causes

  • The tap not fully open or low pressure
  • A kinked inlet hose
  • The inlet valve (F02)

Solution: For F06 open the tap fully, straighten the hose and try again. F02 points to the valve itself, which needs a technician.

Anti-flood protection triggered (F01)

Moderate

The machine stops and the drain pump keeps running, or there is water on the floor.

Possible causes

  • Foam from ordinary washing-up liquid
  • A leak from the door seal or a hose
  • An internal leak reaching the base

Solution: Turn off the tap and unplug the machine. If washing-up liquid or hand soap was used by mistake, remove the foam and let it dry for a full day. With no clear cause, a technician must find the leak before you run it again.

Dishes not drying and water cold (F10 / F04)

Moderate

Dishes come out half-clean and cold, or the programme runs far too long.

Possible causes

  • The heater (F10)
  • The temperature sensor (F04)
  • Scale on the heater from running without salt

Solution: Refill salt and rinse aid, and try a hot programme. If F10 or F04 appears, the part needs measuring.

Spray arms not spraying or a weak wash (F11)

Easy

Glasses are spotted and the upper plates are not washed.

Possible causes

  • Blocked spray-arm holes
  • A tall plate stopping the arm
  • The wash pump (F11)

Solution: Remove the spray arms, clear their holes with a toothpick, and spin them by hand after loading. If F11 appears, the wash pump needs a technician.

Whirlpool dishwasher error codes7

These meanings come from Whirlpool's UK service site. That page also shows that models without a display give the same codes as a combination of lights, so if yours has no display, photograph the lit lamps.

Rinse the base filter

Weekly

Once a week; scraping big leftovers off plates before loading cuts down F03.

Salt and rinse aid

Monthly

Tap water here carries minerals, and salt protects the heater from them and prevents white spots.

Questions about Whirlpool dishwashers1

My Whirlpool dishwasher shows F03. Has the pump failed?

Not necessarily. The maker's own page says to start with the drain hose and sink plumbing, along with the filter. The pump is checked only if all of those are clear and the code returns.

Whirlpool technologies and how they affect faults

These technologies are listed on Egyptian retailers' model pages, and not every model has all of them. Knowing which one your appliance has tells the technician where to start.

  • 6th Sense

FWG and FSCR washers, TTNF and SW8 fridges, UW8 freezers, and the W7 OM4 oven

Sensors measure the load and fabric type in a washer, or the temperature inside a fridge or oven, and the control board adjusts water, time and cooling from those readings.

    Common faults

A programme whose time changes from wash to wash is not a fault; that is the sensor adjusting. A real fault is when the sensor itself reads wrongly, which shows on a washer as F03 or in a fridge as over- or under-cooling.

  • FreshCare+

FWG, FSCR and FFD washers, and the FFT M22 dryer

After the programme ends, the drum tumbles at intervals so clothes left inside do not go musty: on the washers with bursts of steam for up to 6 hours, and on the FFT M22 dryer with tumbling only, no steam.

    Common faults

A drum that moves on its own after the programme is usually FreshCare+ running, and once you stop it you can unload. If a washer gives no steam at all on programmes that should use it, that is checked together with the heater.

  • Steam Hygiene and Steam Care

The FFD 10449 washer and WWDC washer-dryers

Programmes that release steam into the drum for hygiene or to reduce creasing.

    Common faults

Steam depends on the heater and the water, so scale affects it. When the programme stops midway with F08 or F15, the problem is the heating itself, not the steam alone.

  • Inverter and direct drive motors

FWG 81284 SBS, FSCR 90420 and WWDC 9614

A brushless motor whose speed is controlled by an electronic board; in direct drive the motor sits on the drum with no belt.

    Common faults

The motor itself rarely fails; the fault is more likely in the board or wiring, which usually shows as F02 (motor circuit) or F01 (board). Voltage swings wear that board, so a stabiliser makes a difference.

Questions about Whirlpool repairs

Is Agent Site Whirlpool's customer service?
No. We are an independent repair company that services Whirlpool and other brands, and we are not affiliated with Whirlpool or Arçelik.
Are Whirlpool, Indesit and Ariston the same company?
Their home appliances were under the same group from 2014, and in April 2024 Arçelik took over the business of all three in our region. That is why many of their appliances share components and the way codes are shown, but a part is identified from the industrial code on the label, not from resemblance. Ariston water heaters, however, come from a different company, Ariston Group.
Is the code on the display enough to know which part failed?
No. The code tells you where the appliance stopped, not what caused it. F05 on a washer, for example, can be a coin in the filter or the pump, and the difference shows on inspection.
