Accurate diagnosis with a pressure gauge and leak detector
The split AC is the most common type in Egyptian homes — an indoor unit mounted on the wall and an outdoor unit on the balcony or rooftop. Its maintenance differs from other types because it has two copper lines and pressurized refrigerant circuits that need a specialist technician with pressure gauges.
Split means "separated" — the indoor unit (evaporator) is separate from the outdoor unit (condenser and compressor). The advantage is that the system runs quietly inside. The downside is that any leak in the refrigerant line reduces cooling. We have technicians who specialize in every split AC brand: Sharp, Carrier, LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Midea, Fresh, Gree, York, Haier and Panasonic.
The most frequent faults we encounter while servicing Split — ranked by occurrence.
Refrigerant leak at the flare connections due to poor installation
Burnt compressor start capacitor
Clogged indoor drain hose from dust or algae
Dusty outdoor condenser blocking heat exchange
Burnt control board (PCB) from a voltage surge
Faulty room temperature sensor (thermistor) giving wrong readings
Accurate diagnosis with a pressure gauge and leak detector
Recharging genuine refrigerant (R-22, R-410A, R-32) to the correct pressures
Deep cleaning of both indoor and outdoor units
Replacing original spare parts: compressor, capacitors, fans
Installing a new split AC with insulated copper lines
Periodic preventive maintenance contracts
A full installation takes 2 to 4 hours depending on the distance between the two units. This includes the flare connections, water drainage and an operation test.
You do not recharge refrigerant on a routine basis — refrigerant does not run out. If cooling drops, there is a leak that must be found and repaired before recharging.
An inverter AC varies the compressor speed gradually (saving 30-40% on electricity). A standard unit cycles on and off (On/Off).
A split AC from a reputable brand lasts 10-12 years with regular maintenance. Without maintenance it drops to 6-8 years.
This is short cycling — causes include a weak start capacitor, low refrigerant, a dusty outdoor condenser, or a temperature sensor giving wrong readings.
